How it Works

Calmare® Scrambler Pain Therapy Treatment uses a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach. A ‘no-pain’ message is transmitted to the nerve via disposable surface electrodes applied to the skin in the region of the patient’s pain. The perception of pain is cancelled when the no-pain message replaces that of pain, by using the same pathway through the surface electrodes in a non-invasive way. Regardless of pain intensity, a patients’s pain can be completely removed for immediate relief.

Maximum benefit is achieved through follow-up treatments. The patient may be able to go for extended periods of time between subsequent treatments while experiencing significant pain control and relief. The period of time between treatments depends on the underlying cause and severity of the pain in addition to other factors.

About 6 years ago, he discovered a passion for helping people live a more natural lifestyle that focused on restoring health and wellness and improving overall quality of life. This led to a passion of using a Holistic and Functional Medicine Approach to helping people find and correct the underlying root cause of illness and not just symptom cover-up with drugs.

He believes that Neuropathy is one of the most poorly managed conditions in all of health care. Why? You go in with the classic neuropathy symptoms of numbness, tingling, sharp, burning, stabbing nerve pain. What do they do for you? CHEMICALS!!

Most patients are simply given a “chemical cover-up” and oftentimes the underlying root cause of WHY it’s there to begin with is IGNORED.

He's consulted with over 8000+ patients over the past 20 years of practice and has a passion for helping sick folks get well. His passions include weight loss resistance, neuropathy, thyroid dysfunction, type 2 diabetes, & autoimmune disease. He is also excited to bring a new and progressive approach to pain treatment and restoring wellness for all those who wish to live a more active and healthier lifestyle.

Dr Chuck and his team cares for people around the country with his signature Neuropathy Home Care Program and he is also available for in-person consultations/treatment for Neuropathy at Centerville Medical Center located in Garland, TX

What is Calmare Scrambler Therapy?

Calmare Scrambler Therapy is a non-invasive pain relief treatment that uses a machine to send electrical signals to the nerves the affected area. These signals "scramble" the pain signals, preventing them from reaching the brain and providing immediate pain relief. Unlike other pain relief treatments, Calmare Scrambler Therapy does not involve the use of drugs or surgery, making it a safe and effective option for many patients. One of the main benefits of Calmare Scrambler Therapy is its ability to provide long-lasting pain relief. Unlike other treatments that may only provide temporary relief, Calmare Scrambler Therapy can provide relief for weeks or even months after treatment. Additionally, Calmare Scrambler Therapy has few side effects and is non-addictive, making it a safe option for patients who may be at risk for addiction or other complications.Compared to other pain relief treatments, Calmare Scrambler Therapy is also relatively painless. Patients may feel a slight tingling or buzzing sensation during treatment, but this is typically not uncomfortable. Additionally, Calmare Scrambler Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, neuropathy, and cancer-related pain.

Is Calmare covered by insurance?

Calmare is cleared for use by the FDA, however insurance reimbursement is limited at best. Therefore, we do not accept any insurance plans at this time for this treatment, but you may submit your paid receipt to your insurance company for consideration. The good news is that Calmare is very affordable when compared to the high costs of pain-killers, surgery, shots and other ways of reducing pain.

How much does Calmare Scrambler Therapy cost?

A customized treatment plan will be determined upon completion of your comprehensive examination. At this time, the cost for initial consultation which include diagnostic testing and trial treatment with Calmare is $150 to see if Calmare will work for them. Subsequent sessions are only $300 per session.

Most patients will require 10-12 sessions. Booster treatments are also at a cost of $200 per session. What makes Calmare Therapy special and unique is its ability to offer immediate relief without drugs or invasiveness. Hence, most patients after the first few treatments will know if it's a treatment they will like to continue. We offer financing options or payment plans to help make treatment more affordable for patients. Calmare can seem like a large up-front cost but remember that results are long-lasting! For example: a patient utilizing 10 sessions has a cost of $3,000.00. They also may experience 10 months without pain (results vary). This is $300 a month – dinner and drinks twice! Even if this patient needs all three booster sessions at an additional cost of $600 total, that brings total cost of therapy to $3,600.00. For an anticipated 20 months of pain relief we are now at $180/month or $6 per day.

Credit cards are accepted as well as financing through Scratchpay. Research this option at https://scratchpay.com/consumer?clinic_id=27138

Can Calmare cure me?

No, Calmare will not cure or correct the underlying condition causing the pain. Calmare treats chronic neuropathic pain as a separate and distinct problem by changing the message the nerves are sending to the brain from pain to no-pain.Nor will Calmare permanently eradicate pain. Eventually pain returns in roughly 1-6 months. This can happen sooner or later than that time frame based on an individuals response to therapy and life-style factors. When pain reoccurs we provide booster treatments. Previous levels of comfort are usually regained in 1-3 sessions.

Who can benefit from Calmare Scrambler Therapy?

Calmare Scrambler Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, chronic neuropathic pain, and cancer-related pain. The treatment is safe and effective for most patients, but there are some precautions and contraindications to consider. Before undergoing Calmare Scrambler Therapy, it's important to talk to your doctor about your medical history and any medications you're currently taking. Additionally, Calmare Scrambler Therapy may not be recommended for patients with certain medical conditions, such as pacemakers or epilepsy.

How long can I expect pain relief to last after a Calmare session?

During your first cycle pain will return, although relief periods should become longer and intensity decreasing as it does return. After your cycle of therapy relief periods vary. You can expect pain relief generally for 1-6 months. In some cases longer periods of relief can be expected. Boosters can re-deliver relief periods once pain re-emerges.

How many Calmare Scrambler Therapy sessions do I need?

The number of Calmare Scrambler Therapy sessions you'll need depends on a number of factors, including the severity of your pain and the underlying condition being treated. In general, most patients require between 10 and 12 sessions to achieve optimal pain relief. It's important to follow the recommended treatment plan to ensure the best possible results. Additionally, some patients may require maintenance sessions to maintain pain relief over time.

How do I prepare for a Calmare Scrambler Therapy session?

Before undergoing Calmare Scrambler Therapy, your provider will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for the session. In general, you should avoid caffeine and alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment, and wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the affected area. Additionally, it's important to communicate with your provider about any medications you're currently taking, as some medications may need to be adjusted before treatment.

Can I use Calmare Therapy if I have an implanted stimulation device?

No. Calmare is not to be used in anyone with a cardiac pacemaker or spinal stimulation device. This is true even if the device is turned of.

I have metal implants. Is Calmare contraindicated?

As long as the metal implant does not contain iron (you will be told not to have an MRI done), or produces its own current, such as a stimulator or pacemaker, it is not a contraindication to receive Calmare Therapy. Most current materials for joint replacements and spine supports do not contain iron, but ask your surgeon if you fell more comfortable doing so.

Is Calmare invasive and are there side effects?

Not at all. Calmare uses non-latex surface electrodes to deliver gentle stimulation. There are no known side effects.

How long do sessions last?

Sessions last approximately 45 mins to one hour plus time to position the electrodes (possibly longer on the first visit). One treatment a day is given, typically Monday-Friday for an average of 2 weeks. Specific cases may need more or less.

How will I know if this treatment works for me?

Once the electrodes are placed correctly you will experience a decrease in pain or become pain free. In subsequent treatments pain re-emerges with less intensity and the relief period gets longer. It is recommended to do three sessions to witness this for yourself.

Do I need to combine medications or treatments with Calmare?

Calmare is a stand alone-treatment that does not need to be combined with any other medication or treatment. If you remain on (non anticonvulsant) pain medications it is important to remain in communication with your physician. It may be prudent to change required dosage due to the success of Calmare Therapy.

How is the Calmare device different from a TENS machine?

The scrambler machine has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which identifies the device as a unique entity, unlike anything else in the market (i.e. a tens unit). In regard to comparing the MC-5A scrambler machine to a tens unit, the two devices have marked differences:The Calmare MC-5A device creates a low-energy electrical impulse which travels through the patient’s nerves delivering a “no-pain” signal to the brain using 16 distinct algorithms. This process “tricks” the brain that the area of pain is normal and eventually results in prolonged pain relief.TENS units use high energy electrical impulses to block pain signals or distract the brain, but when treatment stops, the pain usually returns. It emits an electronic message over one single algorithm.A tens unit is self-administered by the patient whereas the scrambler is administered by a trained medical professional.
